Stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. Johns River, the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway occupies much of the land formerly known as the Cross Florida Barge Canal. This 110-mile corridor encompasses a variety of natural habitats and offers an array of trails and recreation areas where visitors can experience Florida's premier greenway.
This central area of the greenway is home to a trail network that's widely considered the "best of the best" in mountain bike trails. With the support of the Ocala Mountain Bike Association(link is external), more than 80 miles of off-road, bike trails have been developed for three levels of difficulty, accommodating skill levels from beginner to expert. The Santos Mountain Bike Trails have been named as an International Mountain Bicycling Association (link is external)(IMBA) bronze-level Ride Center. Already designated as an elite IMBA Epic Ride, the Ride Center designation, one of only six in the country, recognizes the Santos Trails as a large-scale mountain bike facility that is destination-worthy and offers something for every rider. Mountain bike enthusiasts can access this trail network from the Santos Trailhead, between Ocala and Belleview.
