About Us:

Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge.

The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.

Blackwater lodge, cabins and restaurant are open year-round and welcome visitors to enjoy winter sled riding, spring greening, cool summer evenings, and autumn foliage.

You'll find good food, comfortable accommodations, and WiFi access if you must stay in touch while you're relaxing at Blackwater Falls.

Our conference facilities host reunions, meetings and special occasions as well as catered banquets and receptions. The indoor guest pool and fitness center is popular with our guests.

Tour buses are always impressed with the magnificent views found at the park in all seasons. There is ample parking and there are no entrance fees. The genuine hospitality you experience at Blackwater Falls is also found Canaan Valley area including the towns of Davis and Thomas, W.Va.

It’s a wonderful place to go for a hiking and trekking. Since it was late when I visited I’d parked close to the steps that leads to the waterfalls. It’s approximately 150+ steps (stairs) from parking to water falls. There is a gift store and restroom near parking. And a restaurant within the state park. Overall it’s a best place to visit.

The falls are a "must see" (especially if you are nearby). I've never camped here, but have stopped by at different seasons, and they are always breath-taking. A lot of fun to take kids to, and it does not take long to walk down to see them. If you are a photographer or just want to enjoy God's creation, then you should stop by.

Very nice park. Be ready to walk tho. It's a small trek to the falls with lots of stairs. It's also located close to other natural parks so you can do more than 1 a day. It haves a nice gift shop, ice cream shop & picnic tables to eat at. Beautiful outlook of the falls.

This park was so beautiful. Enjoyed looking at the falls with my family, the walkway was well maintained and my 8 and 5 year old had no problem on it! The waterfall was super impressive. Loved the other overlooks as well.

Beautiful place with great common rooms, fantastic staff. It rained during our stay, but we will come back to enjoy winter activities.
