Letchworth State Park
Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs-as high as 600 feet in some places-surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, a pool for swimming and hot air ballooning.
A beautiful place to visit in the fall. They have an upper, middle, and lower falls. I always take great pictures when I'm there. It's so calm just to walk around or to hike. Every year they have a craft show and I always spend my money buying locally made Christmas gifts. I've noticed that in the recent years they have put up better playgrounds for the kids. I have a toddler and it's great just to sit back and watch him play with other kids for hours.
This is a beautiful park. The view is magnificent. There are a few shops through the park. The park is kept maintained and they have lots of trails. There is a really nice place to have dinner, there is about 17 miles of park from one end to another. There is cabins available to rent, picnic areas, swimming, they have a hot air balloons weekend there. There is a lot to see and enjoy. Site to see the falls and river . Plan on just 2 hours for a few stops and drive through. But there is so much more. Check it out.
If you are in upstate New York you have to visit Letchworth state park. If you like camping, hiking, biking , white water rafting it provides for one and all. It is rightly called the grand canyon of the east. The falls in the park calls for a incredible experience, the flowing water makes you feel a unique combination of power and smoothness of water. In case you lack time just plan a drive through the park its a special stress free and comfortable drive.
Absolutely beautiful. We stayed in cabin area a in cabin 18 in lower falls area. The cabin had electric along with a fridge and stove, heat, and a bathroom! The only bad thing is there is no water after October and they shut it off in October. Also, I mean it's camping and we should be happy with have anything but the showers were not what I expected. There is no shower head and the water splashes all over your stuff even if you push it far away on the bench. The shower area did not seem heated and it did not appear clean at all. Other than this we absolutely loved the scenery at all falls and the trails etc. Staff was nice too but everything is closed in October too including all stores so bring all your supplies otherwise you will have to go to the store not too far away. The nature center is the only place in the park with wifi and Verizon seemed to be the only service that worked..and it was in and out. That is just for information. I know camping is not about electronics :) definitely recommended for family trip, romantic getaway, or even a honeymoon! Winter I heard they have snow activities so fun there all year. You won't regret the visit!
We took my Mom down memory lane at Letchworth Park. It is many of miles long. Many of pull off' s so you can see the sights better. Bring a picnic lunch or buy something to eat there. There is an ice cream gift shop in the beginning. We found a nice gift shop in the middle and way down by the end of the park we found a nice Restaurent / gift shop with a pound with the largest gold fish that I have ever seen. Bring your own water & snacks is a good idea. Yes you can walk it or ride bikes / motorcycles. They do have a camping area we where told but we did not go there.
